Milo Yaro Swinkels

University of Basel, Switzerland

Milo Swinkels did his PhD at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the group of Erik Bakkers on thermal transport in nanowires. After that he did a PostDoc at the university of Basel in the group of Ilaria Zardo, where he expanded his research beyond thermal transport and also studied phononic properties using inelastic light scattering.

Tutorial 2 (ICMAB)

TOPIC

Thermal transport, nanoscale, thermal conductivity, techniques

TITLE

Measuring thermal transport at the nanoscale

ABSTRACT

In this tutorial I will provide an overview of all the different techniques that can be used to measure the thermal conductivity of nanosystems in general, with a focus on nanowires. I will explain current techniques with their advantages, disadvantages and range of applicability. Furthermore, I will talk about current developments being made with respect to those techniques, and finally I will discuss some novel techniques that have recently been developed.
